Have You Tried Quitting Smoking The Easy Way? Why Not?
You probably don't believe there is an easy way to quit smoking, but there is. Read on.
If youre not quitting smoking the easy way, its likely you wont succeed.
The hard way means needlessly tackling the cravings, weight gain, nervous tension and overall discomfort.
Many people fail the first dozen or so times they try to quit because of these possible side effects. I know I did. It was a difficult struggle. The biggest obstacle for me to overcome was the way my mind would trick me into having another cigarette.
You know how it goes. The first time you try, youre several hours into quitting when your mind says, Why am I quitting? I really enjoy it.
A few months go by and you try again. This time you make it several days without a cigarette. Then, those cravings keep nagging at you. Your mind tells you, Why am I quitting? I enjoy smoking. I can quit anytime.
Time passes and you endure the constant bombardment from your family and friends telling you that you need to quit smoking. You proudly tell them, I can quit anytime. I just dont want to right now.
These feeble attempts to quit continue and before long, years have passed and youre still smoking, still trying to quit. On each subsequent attempt, you come up with more reasons not to quit. Do any of these sound familiar?
Ill gain weight if I quit or Im too stressed right now to quit or Theres too much going on right now. Ill quit later.
Eventually, all these failed attempts leave you with a lasting impression: I cant quit so theres no point trying or Theres no point quitting now. Its too late. Ive smoked so long Ive probably already got cancer.
I know these excuses very well. Ive used them numerous times over a period of about five years.
Its so easy to deceive yourself into continuing something that has become too engrained in your life, or seems too big an obstacle to overcome.
I can honestly tell you that no matter how convinced you are that you cannot quit, the more you will believe it.
Are you wondering what the secret is to quitting smoking? The easy way is to start with your belief system.
No doubt youve come to truly believe that youll never quit, so the first thing you need to do is change that thinking and turn it into a positive. As soon as you do that, you will notice a huge difference in your success rate.
How do you change your beliefs?
First, you need to find a good reason to quit smoking. What is it about your smoking that you hate the most? Im fortunate to have a very determined will. On top of that, I hate not being in control of my life. When it became evident that I couldnt quit smoking, I realized I was not in control. It angered me that cigarettes had such control over me. Theres nothing I wanted more than to get my life back. I no longer wanted to feel that tension when my cigarettes started to run out. I hated having to check my cupboards just before store closing to make sure I had some in stock.
I truly felt like an addict. And thats exactly what I was. I hated being an addict. Sometimes, it interfered with my concentration, especially when I was in a place where I couldnt smoke. All I could think about was getting out to light up that cigarette and feel that satisfaction waft over me.
Almost from the moment I changed my mindset about smoking, the rest was relatively easy. It was simply a matter of coming up with a plan that would work for me. With a pitcher of water and a bag of munchies at my side, I was able to quit within 2 weeks. By the end of that month, I almost forgot I ever smoked. The farther I got from my last cigarette, the dimmer the addiction and the thoughts became.
Today, I never think about it. But then, Ive been a non-smoker now for 32 years. The important thing is, this can be you if you learn how quitting smoking the easy way can be far more successful than the way you have been trying the hard way.
